With three matches to go in the regular season, the Stanford Womens' Soccer team is almost to base camp. Stanford has won all their games by lopsided scores, save for the tie against the
To get to base camp, the Card needs to beat UCLA in what is effectively the Pac-10 title game this friday. Of course, if the Card does win at UCLA, that does not necessarily mean they'll win the Pac-10. If Stanford were to turn around and lose against USC and then Cal, the Pac-10 would likely go to UCLA. But Stanford needs to look at this next match against UCLA as the match for all the marbles.
To lay claim to having achieved the status of an elite program, and to set the stage for a serious assault on the summit of a national championship instead of flaming out in the early going of the NCAAs, Stanford absolutely, positively must beat UCLA.
The question is, how?
Stay tuned.

Will they need O2 and do they have Sherpas? Do they need either?
They have to have a good weekend or their thoughts of an NCAA tournament are in peril. They have the raw talent, they just need to play.
What'sBruin, father of Stanford's Ali Riley(#3), teaches at UCLA (econ). He has posted an interesting stat sheet on the three teams and their play. But like my old HS football coach said "statistics are for losers". I don't put much credence in stats, they're just interesting, that's all.

Jer, they need to stay healthy. I saw Whatsbruin's strength of schedule comparison. Looks good on paper!
I think Stanford gets an NCAA bid no matter what, even if they lose all three of their remaining games. But obviously their draw would not be nearly as good as if they get in as the seeded winner of the Pac-10.
If Stanford wins out the rest of the regular season, it is quite possible they go in as the #1 seed.
